iFollow| Action & Reaction – Jordan Cook

Grimsby Town striker Jordan Cook has backed himself to keep improving, after scoring a brace in the Mariners’ 3-0 Sky Bet League Two win over Newport County at Blundell Park.

The 28-year-old bagged either side of the break to take his tally up to five goals in all competitions so far this season, as the Mariners climbed up to 12th in the league.

And Cook, who has spent several spells side-lined with injuries this season, hopes to continue improving and contributing to the Mariners’ performances.

Speaking exclusively on iFollow Mariners, he said: “Two proper horrible, scuffy striker goals, which I absolutely love – and I’ll take them every day of the week!

“It is about time! The past month-and-a-half has been frustrating for me with little niggly injuries, and I’m the first to criticise myself.

“In my eyes I’ve done everything right to get back fit, but maybe sometimes I’ve pushed a bit too hard, and I’ve knocked myself back a week rather than slowing down and coming back into it a week later.

“But the gaffer has been class with me – he’s honest with me, he knows that I need my fitness back up, and he says that I’m at my best when I’m fit.

“I felt sharp, I felt good – I played the whole 90 minutes – the last 10 minutes felt a bit leggy, but the pitch was a bit soft and obviously we can’t help that.

“But it’s my second start for a while, and for me I’ll get better and better as long as I keep myself fit and healthy.”
