Town’s Youth Team recorded a 3-1 victory over Hull City in the U17 Professional Development League Cup at the Bradley Football Development Centre on Wednesday night.

The Young Mariners produced an impressive second-half performance to secure all three points in their latest cup group fixture, with Fortune Jack, Noah Hutton and Ted Sharp all finding the net.

The opening exchanges were evenly contested, with both sides looking to establish control of the game. Town eventually broke the deadlock when Manyika showed excellent persistence inside the Hull penalty area, twisting and turning before seeing his effort saved by the visiting goalkeeper. Jack was quickest to react to the rebound, turning the ball home to put the Mariners in front.

Hull responded midway through the first half, finding an equaliser in similar fashion after following up on a saved effort. Town were handed a golden opportunity to restore their advantage when Horsman was brought down inside the penalty area after some excellent play. Jack stepped up from 12 yards, but his penalty was saved by the Hull goalkeeper.

The visitors threatened from set pieces after the break, but Town’s back line stood firm and continued to deal with the danger. The Young Mariners then regained the lead through a superb finish from Hutton.

Manyika once again played his part, closing down the Hull goalkeeper as he rushed out of his area. The loose ball fell to Hutton, who showed excellent composure to guide an effort into the empty net from around 35 yards.

Town continued to press for a third and eventually put the result beyond doubt. Jack produced a perfectly weighted through ball to find Sharp, who made no mistake with a first-time finish beyond the goalkeeper to make it 3-1.

The victory sees Town continue their PDL Cup campaign with an impressive result against local opposition, with the young Mariners showing quality and resilience to turn the game in their favour after Hull had levelled.
