We are delighted to announce that following the Food Bank collected at the Fleetwood Town fixture, we raised £1,106.57 for two local organisations supporting people in need across our community.
Grimsby Town Foundation joined forces with We Are ONE Foundation and The Rock Foundation for a special food bank initiative around our home fixture against Fleetwood Town.
The campaign was launched to support the two organisations during one of the most challenging periods of the year for food banks, with demand for their services remaining high while donations can traditionally fall during the summer months.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of Mariners supporters, a total of £1,106.57 was raised for We Are ONE and The Rock Foundation to share.
Alongside the financial donations, supporters also donated food, toiletries and other essential items, helping to replenish supplies and provide practical support to people across the local community.
Donations were collected throughout the week in the Club Shop and Ticket Office, before supporters were encouraged to bring items with them to Blundell Park for the Fleetwood fixture. Cash and card collections also took place around the ground on matchday.
The response demonstrated once again the difference that can be made when the Mariners family comes together.
Making a difference beyond matchday
The support for the campaign extended beyond donations.
During the build-up to the fixture, Doug Tharme and Seb Auton visited the food banks to learn more about the work being carried out by both organisations and get involved behind the scenes.
On matchday, volunteers from We Are ONE, The Rock Foundation and Grimsby Town Foundation were at Blundell Park, raising awareness of the campaign and speaking to supporters about the support available within the local community.
Representatives from both organisations were also based in the area between the Pontoon and Ramsden’s stands, giving supporters the opportunity to find out more about their work and how they could continue to help.
While food bank provision is an important part of what both organisations do, their support goes much further. Information was available about wider services, including advice around benefits and debt, as well as how people who may be struggling can access support.
A number of volunteers and people identified by the charities as potentially benefiting from their support were also welcomed to the game as guests in the Osmond Stand.
The initiative was therefore about more than collecting donations, it was about bringing people together, raising awareness and helping connect members of our community with the support available to them.
Thank you, Mariners
The £1,106.57 raised will now be shared between We Are ONE and The Rock Foundation, helping both organisations continue their vital work supporting people across our community.
While the final figure is something for everyone involved to be proud of, the campaign also highlighted the importance of continuing to support local food banks and community organisations throughout the year.
Whether it was a bag of food, a packet of toiletries or a financial donation, every contribution made a difference.
The Fleetwood Town fixture may have come and gone, but the impact of the Mariners family coming together will continue through the work of the two organisations.
A huge thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, helped organise the campaign or took the time to find out more about the work of We Are ONE and The Rock Foundation.
