Grimsby returned to league action on Saturday morning when they travelled to local rivals Scunthorpe.
Both teams started well without creating any real chances of note in the opening exchanges, Town did force a save from the keeper when Stratton got a shot off inside the box and Goundry went close with a header from a wide free-kick.
Scunthorpe took the lead after 18 minutes when a corner kick was not dealt with and they bundled the ball home at the back post.
Town went close to getting back in the game when Goundry headed over again, Town started to get into a better flow but against the run of play, Scunthorpe doubled their lead on 36 minutes with a speculative effort which dipped over Jacobs.
In the second half, Town came out with more of the same, controlling possession but tightening up at the back, they got back into the game when substitute Milner finished off a good move which saw Tomlinson slide him in to finish past the keeper on the 60th minute.
Town continued to apply the pressure and went close through Tomlinson, Boyd and Braithwaite.
Town did find the equaliser in the 76th minute when a fine solo run saw Tomlinson brought down in the box, he stepped up and dispatched the penalty to make it all square.
Town continued to press forwards, Brown shot close, Braithwaite also but the game ended with both teams taking a point.
