We are delighted to announce that Anthony Glennon has signed a two-year deal with the Club following his release from Burnley.
The left back will be no stranger to Mariners fans, after the 22-year-old spent the second half of the 2019-20 campaign on-loan at Blundell Park. During his three-month spell in North East Lincolnshire, he made 12 appearances, scoring once in a 2-2 draw with Forest Green Rovers, prior to Covid ending the season prematurely.
Glennon returned to Turf Moor to captain their Under 23’s team and his form resulted in the full back making three first team appearances for the Clarets during 2020-21. In search of more first team football, the young defender signed on loan at Barrow in January and played 16 games, scoring once, as the Bluebirds finished just above the relegation zone.
Town’s newest recruit spoke to gtfc.co.uk this morning about why he was keen to re-join a Club which has remained close to his heart.
“I am absolutely buzzing to be back. I loved every minute of my time here when I was on loan, and I can’t wait to get going. I love this Club; it gave me my first opportunity to play first team football and I’ll always be grateful for that. I’ve followed the Club’s progress since my loan ended and I’m over the moon we’re back in the Football League where we belong. The fans are unbelievable I can’t wait to meet and play in front of them again. When I spoke the with manager it was an easy decision for me. I love the progress the Club has made, and I want to be a part of it. I can’t wait to get going and hopefully this season can be just as progressive as the last.”
Paul Hurst also gave his reaction to Glennon joining the Mariners on a two-year deal.
“Anthony is a player who’ll be familiar to our fans after being on loan here previously. Obviously, I haven’t worked with him before, but I know he impressed when he was last here. Another factor which is important to me is his character. Everyone I’ve spoken to talks highly about the way he trains and his commitment to his job. When we got in touch in the summer, I had a really good chat with him, and I think the Club had made a really good impression on him in the past. I’m really pleased to have him on board. He leaves Burnley where he was well thought of. Like with Jordan Cropper, we really feel these lads have a good grounding, and we want that to continue with us. He and Danny will now fight it out for that left back spot and I look forward to him joining the rest of the group.”
Welcome back to the Club, Anthony.
