The football Club is very sad to learn of the recent passing of Frank Bridge who was our groundsman for many years.

Frank worked for Grimsby Town from 1979 until 1992 and was at the helm during an era when pitches moved from being mud patches in the latter stages of seasons, to being a greensward all over, during the days of Alan Buckley.

Frank’s apprentice was Mike Phillips, our current long-standing groundsman, and he had nothing but kind words to say about his friend and former mentor.

“Frank started back in 1979 after working as a landscape gardener before that. I started as an apprentice a year later and he was head groundsman for the club for 13 years.

“He was a very kind, warm natured guy with a good sense of humour. He also had a fiery side too which he showed when someone walked across the pitch when they shouldn’t have been!

Our thoughts are with Frank’s family and friends at this sad time.
