Back in August 2022, Grimsby Town Sports & Education Trust were awarded National Lottery funding for the Heritage Project #RememberWhenGTFC.
The main aim of the project is to capture memories and collect memorabilia about the Mariners that will culminate in both online and touring exhibitions. The donations and loans received will form an online exhibition for all to see, covering topics such as: current and past players, memorable home and away matches, shirts and badges both past and present, non-players along with fans and family and also Town’s connection to the local fishing industry.
GTSET will be working with local community groups including the Mariners Trust to gather as many memories as possible and tour a small exhibition within local care homes and schools.
Frankie Hodson started as the Project Manager in November 2022. Since then, Frankie has been focusing on collection development policies – so everything is looked after properly – as well as setting up weekly drop in sessions and looking to involve volunteers.
Talking about the project, Frankie says “This is a really exciting opportunity for Grimsby Town fans of all ages to tell their story of the Club and share it with others. We would like to invite people to start sharing their stories and experiences of the Mariners with us using the hashtag on Twitter #RememberWhenGTFC or through e-mail to [email protected].
“Alternatively, if you’d like to write your story and post it please send to for the attention of Frankie Hodson to Blundell Park, DN35 7PY.”
Any way in which you would like to discuss getting involved with the project or are able to offer some time to volunteer – either as a keen Mariners fan or to gain some experience – please get in touch by dropping an email to [email protected] or popping into the Blundell Park and leaving your details. GTSET are looking to facilitate as many requests as possible.
