Our U18s hosted Notts County at Cheapside on Tuesday morning.
Town made a positive start with Bramwell and Potts both having efforts from close range – both failing to find the target.
Town had some good spell of possession, and created a few more half-chances, without really troubling the County keeper.
The visitors loaded balls into the box and with a lot of crosses and set pieces but the Town back line stood strong and dealt with the aerial threat well.
But it was the Mariners who took the lead when Markham’s cross was turned in by Potts from close in, giving the hosts the advantage going into the break.
The second half saw The Magpies pressing higher up the pitch and limited Town’s openings, however, Essel did have the chance to double the Mariners’ advantage but fired high and wide.
But it was the visitors who grabbed the equaliser from the penalty spot after the referee spotted a handball in the box.
The game continued in the same vein but eventually fizzled out, with neither side looking likely to grab a winner.
