Notts County U18s 2-1 Town U18s
Our U18s travelled to Notts County on Tuesday and suffered their second defeat of the season to the league leaders.
Town performed well in the game but were just edged out by the table-toppers.
The visitors started well and when Smaller’s header fell to Goundry, his effort was fantastically saved by the County keeper.
Notts had some pressure and loaded balls frequently into the Town box but the Town backline stood strong and defended well.
Town went close again when Davey, Adlard and Tomlinson linked well, only to see Milner fail to connect with the cross.
The second half was more of the same but Town’s football was now creating better opportunities, Bramwell fired over from close range and Tomlinson saw his shot well saved by the keeper. But Town were to get the breakthrough that their play deserved when Adlard broke the deadlock after a neat through ball from Tomlinson.
County hit back immediately when the cross was hit first time from the edge of the box, which looped over Boyes in the Town goal.
Neil Woods’ side persisted and Milner and Adlard went close.
But the hosts were to snatch a winner, a good delivery from a free-kick was met with a powerful header, giving the Town keeper no chance.
Town had a number of penalty shouts, and they looked to have snatched a late equaliser when a free-kick looked to have crossed the line.
Neil Woods’ side are next in action on Saturday when Rotherham are the visitors to Cheapside.
