Grimsby Town Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of free agent Julien Lamy until the end of the season.
The twenty-one-year-old winger has spent the last few days training with the Mariners and is pleased to be given the opportunity to prove himself at his new club.
“Everything has gone well with training and I am really, really pleased to be here. I want to get things back on track here at Grimsby and I believe there is a good potential at the club for the second half of the season. If we work hard every day, I think us as a group we can pull together and have a good future.
“I didn’t know any of the boys or staff personally before I arrived but even though I have only had three days with them, they have made me feel so welcome and part of the family that it feels I have known them for a very long time.
“I would describe myself as a dangerous winger. I like to create chances and be as difficult as possible for my opponents to help create the goals for my teammates, so hopefully, I can show this to the fans and my teammates. I am looking forward to the weekend, I want us to win every game and even though we are where we are, it is a challenge but I see that as something that is good because this is when you have to push yourself and prove yourself that you do not deserve to be where we are”.
Manager Paul Hurst has spent the last few days putting his latest recruit through his paces whilst training with the squad and has seen enough to offer the young winger a deal.
“He’s one of those where a name comes through like many do but he was one that I recognised. Now that doesn’t mean that it’s all going to happen, but I had certain people to contact that I am more comfortable with and some of those at Rotherham gave him a good reference. He’s only twenty-one now but those people spoke highly of his attitude and his application towards his job, so straight away that ticked a box.
“Once I had the good feedback I was happy for him to come train and he has shown more than enough in a short window that he can add some competition to the squad and is worthy of a deal until the end of the season. We don’t over-commit ourselves, but at the same time, it’s a genuine opportunity for the lad to go and show us what he can do and be part of the squad.
“He appreciates and understands our position in the league and he is ready to fight, he has fitted in well, he speaks good enough English but there are sometimes barriers with fitting in, but he has fit straight in with the lads and seems a great character. It’s another fresh face for us to add to the squad which I think was needed, the squad has got a totally new feel to it and he’s the latest part of that”.
Julien was registered prior to yesterday’s midday deadline and is now eligible for this afternoon’s clash with Newport County AFC. The winger will wear the number 42 shirt for the Mariners. Be sure to purchase your match pass for the game on iFollow Mariners and tune in from 2pm.
