We are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Elliott Hewitt from Notts County on a two-year deal.
The 25-year-old becomes Michael Jolley’s fourth summer signing, after forwards Matt Green, James Hanson, and Moses Ogbu made the move to Blundell Park.
Versatile defender or midfielder Hewitt began his career at Macclesfield Town after graduating through the youth academy at the Moss Rose.
After making 25 appearances for the Silkmen, he signed for Ipswich Town in 2012 – making 16 appearances in three seasons at Portman Road.
During that time, he had loan spells at Gillingham and Colchester United between 2013 and 2015, going on to make more than 40 appearances in all competitions.
The former Wales U21 international then signed for Notts County in 2015, and played a vital part in their 2017-18 campaign as they reached the Sky Bet League Two play-off semi-finals.
He went on to make 152 appearances for the Magpies, scoring eight goals, before his 2018-19 season came to a premature end in February last term due to injury.
Speaking in his first interview on iFollow Mariners, Elliott said: “I’m very happy. I a spoke to the gaffer after the season had finished, what he was saying excited me, it’s something I wanted to get over the line.
“It’s been going on for a little while and I had heard a rumour that it could happen. I spoke to the likes of Denno (Krisian Dennis) and Hess (Jake Hessenthaler), everything sounded good, perfect for me.”
