Grimsby Town Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder George McEachran on a two- year deal.
The former England youth international signed for Swindon Town in February 2023 and made 58 appearances for the Robins prior to his release this summer.
The 23-year-old began his career in Chelsea’s Academy at the age of nine, spending 13 years with the West London club.
McEachran was an unused sub in Chelsea’s Europa League final victory over Arsenal in 2019, spending time on loan with SC Cambuur and MVV Maastricht in the Netherlands.
The midfielder was also part of the England u17s squad that won the World Cup in India in 2017.
On bringing McEachran into the Club, Head Coach David Artell said, “George is a technically terrific player. Joe (Hutchinson) had him with the England U17s and told me all about his character, which is important.”
“He can link-up play and he can help the likes of Curtis (Thompson) and Kieran (Green), whoever plays that deep role, but he can also link-up play further up too. He’ll be able to keep the ball for us and progress it up the pitch.”
On making the move to Blundell Park, McEachran said, “I’m very pleased and I’m just buzzing to get down here and into training and see the lads.”
On why he chose to make the move, he added, “I had a call with David and I like the sound of the things that he was saying, the things that he wants me to do for the team and the things he expects. Hopefully I’ll settle here quickly and show people what I can do on the pitch.
“I played 39 games last season, so I know a bit about the league. It’s a tough league but hopefully we can do well this season and push on.”
Welcome to the Mariners, George!
