YOUTH TEAM REPORT | GRIMSBY TOWN 3-1 PRESTON NORTH END

Grimsby Town Youth Team were 3-1 victors against Preston North End in their first home game of the 2024-25 season.

Following a 3-1 win away at Port Vale on the opening weekend, the Mariners matched that score-line as they made it two wins in their opening two fixtures.

Town got off to a fine start when Alex Graham crossed the ball into the box and Charlie Clements pinned his man to set up Henry Brown, who smashed the ball into the top corner to give Neil Woods’ side the lead after just two minutes.

The Mariners kept the pressure on but a strong North End team came back into the game and controlled possession for a period and their number nine twisted free on the edge of the box and scored to make it 1-1 on the half an hour mark.

Town came out for second half and scored immediately from kick-off. Harry Shipstone’s cross was flicked on by Graham and Jack Collins smashed it home to give Town the advantage.

The Mariners made it three when Elliott Smith wriggled free inside the box and smashed the ball past the keeper at the near post.

Town created more chances, when Jaxon Blankley hit the bar and Brown and Grayson Giles also went close, but the Mariners came away as 3-1 winners.

Our u17s also played Preston and were 2-1 victors.

Next up for Town is a trip to Huddersfield on Saturday in the first Youth Alliance Cup game of the season.
