Goalkeeper joins on loan

We are pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Jackson Smith on an emergency 7-day loan from Barnsley.

The 22-year-old joined the League One club on a four-year deal in the summer from Walsall, following an impressive season with the Saddlers last term.

Smith is a product of the Wolverhampton Wanderers academy and gained first team experience during loan spells with Frickley Athletic, Kettering Town and Walsall, prior to making the move permanent ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

Speaking after signing on loan at Blundell Park, Smith said, “I’m really happy to be here. Obviously, it’s in difficult circumstances though with both the Club’s senior goalkeepers being injured. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind, but I’m looking forward to playing some competitive football for the Mariners.”

Smith will wear the number 31 shirt and is available for tonight’s game against Gillingham.
