RESERVE MARINERS EARN VICTORY IN CENTRAL LEAGUE CUP

A Mariners reserve side beat Notts County reserves 3-0 at Bottesford in the Central League Cup.

Goals from Matty Carson, Curtis Thompson and Charles Vernam saw Town emerge winners over a youthful Notts County side.

Seb Auton was positioned in between the sticks, behind a backline made up of Youth Team centre-back Callum Storr, Doug Tharme, Tyrell Warren and Matty Carson.

The midfield was made up of Callum Ainley, Harvey Cribb and the returning Curtis Thompson, with Vernam returning to action to accompany Luca Barrington and Rekeil Pyke up front.

Matty Carson opened the scoring for the Mariners inside two minutes, curling a free-kick from just outside the box into the top right corner, before Curtis Thompson doubled our advantage from close range.

Town got their third not long before the break, through Charles Vernam who curled the ball into the back of the net from outside the area.

Charlie Clements came on for Curtis Thompson for the start of the second-half, with Alfie Foy and Henry Brown replacing Charles Vernam and Harvey Cribb shortly after the restart.

Grayson Giles came on in place of Rekeil Pyke half-way through the second period.

Seb Auton looked comfortable and assured in between the sticks, making some strong stops to keep out the County forwards and commanding his area well.

Town: Auton, Warren, Tharme, Storr, Carson, Cribb, Ainley, Thompson, Barrington, Pyke, Vernam

Subs: Rogers, Brown, Foy, Clements, Giles
