Match Preview and Information: Fleetwood (H)

Next up for David Artell’s men is a home tie against Fleetwood, who currently sit 13th in the Sky Bet League Two table.

The Cod Army were relegated from Sky Bet League One at the end of last season, finishing 22nd in the third tier of the football pyramid ending a decade competing at that level.

Over the 31 games played this season, the Lancashire club have both won and lost ten games, while drawing eleven. The last time Fleetwood earned three points on the road was away at Salford on Saturday 18th January, so they will be looking to end that winning drought away from home tomorrow afternoon.

David Artell previews the visit of Fleetwood

Fleetwood are under the leadership of 40-year-old Pete Wild, who took the position at the club in December last year following his departure from fellow Sky Bet League Two side Barrow. Prior to that, Wild was in charge of National League side, Halifax Town where he reached the play-offs twice with the Shaymen.

A key player for the Cod Army will be goalkeeper, Jay Lynch. Making his first appearance of the Sky Bet League Two season in net on Boxing Day last year, Lynch has kept six clean sheets in 12 appearances for the Cod Army and will be searching for his seventh on Saturday. The shot-stopper has made over 100 appearances in a Fleetwood shirt, with his distribution and ability to get off his line quickly making him a trustworthy figure in net. The former Manchester United youth keeper has promotions under his belt with Salford City and has and also won the FA Trophy with AFC Fylde in the 2018-19 season.

The reverse fixture at the Highbury Stadium was Town’s first outing of the 2024-25 season, with David Artell’s men suffering a narrow 1-0 loss on the Fylde Coast. Five summer recruits, including Jason Svanthorsson and George McEachran made their Mariners’ debuts, while another two made appearances off the bench. Close chances from forwards Charles Vernam and Svanthorsson early on in the contest could’ve seen the outcome of the tie end more positively for Town but a Mark Helm strike gave Fleetwood the three points.
