Preview and match information: Tranmere Rovers (H)

Next up for David Artell’s men is a home tie under the lights against Tranmere Rovers, who currently sit 22nd in the Sky Bet League Two table.

The Rovers are experiencing their fourth consecutive season in League Two, following relegation from League One on a points per game basis in 2020 during the Covid-19 season. Prior to that, the Merseyside club had enjoyed back-to-back promotions from the National League all the way to the third tier.

Over the 34 games played this season, Rovers have won six, drawn 11 and lost 17. They earned themselves a vital point at the weekend at home to sixth place Port Vale and will be looking for their first win on the road since beating Bromley back in October 2024.

Rovers coach Andy Crosby is currently taking charge of the club following the departure of Nigel Adkins. Crosby’s first game saw Tranmere add a vital point to their tally against his former club Port Vale, who he managed last season after joining the backroom staff in 2021 and leading them to victory in the League Two promotion final in 2022. Crosby joined Tranmere as a coach in December last year for a short period and now finds himself taking charge of the struggling League Two outfit.

A key player for the Rovers will be striker Omari Patrick. The 28-year-old signed for the Rovers in the summer and has since been the club’s main attacking threat in a tricky 2024/25 campaign, with eight goals and four assists to his name in all competitions. Primarily a left winger, Patrick can operate anywhere across the front three and also in midfield if required. The forward has League One experience under his belt and has racked up almost 200 appearances in League Two, including play-off success with former club Carlisle United. The experienced forward averages 2.51 shots per 90, with 80% shot accuracy.

The reverse fixture at Prenton Park saw the Mariners come away with the three points in a deserved 1-0 victory that extended our impressive form on the road to four wins earlier in the season. A goal from Justin Obikwu gave Town their first win away at Tranmere since 1998. Despite a Danny Rose penalty frustratingly being saved by Tranmere keeper Luke McGee, his strike partner went on to grab the only goal of the game.
