Match Preview & Information: MK Dons (A)

Next up for David Artell’s men is a trip to Buckinghamshire to face MK Dons.

Milton Keynes currently sit 18th in the Sky Bet League Two table and have struggled to string together a run of positive results since the turn of the year, having only won on five occasions since New Year’s Day. Their most recent win came on Monday under new boss Paul Warne against Crewe Alexandra. The club’s most recent promotion came in the 2018-19 season, where they earned a spot in League One under former Manager Paul Tisdale.

Over the 44 games played this season, MK Dons have won 14, drawn eight and lost 22. The Buckinghamshire club’s best run of results came between late September and late October, where they only lost one in nine.

MK Dons are coached by 51-year-old Paul Warne, who took the position at the club just last week following the dismissal of Scott Lindsey and mathematically secured the club’s League Two status in his second game in charge, overcoming once play-off chasing Crewe Alexandra, 1-0 away from home following a draw in his first 90 minutes on the Stadium MK touchline. Warne’s previous jobs have included a three-year spell at Derby County, with whom he narrowly missed a play-off place with in 2023, before rebuilding the Rams’ squad that summer and leading them to promotion back to the Championship. Warne’s first managerial role saw him oversee three promotions and three relegations in six years with Rotherham United between 2016 and 2022.

A key player for Milton Keynes will be left-sided midfielder, Joe Tomlinson. Tomlinson joined MK Dons in September 2023 as a defender, but this campaign has been operating more as a left midfielder. With seven goal contributions this season, the defensive-minded player is a threat further up the pitch too and sits fourth in the club’s goalscoring charts this campaign. The 24-year-old impressed further down the pyramid with Hungerford Town and Eastleigh, where he scored 12 goals from left-back in his first season as a senior pro, before his first move to a Football League side in the Championship with Peterborough United in 2021.
