Grimsby Town Football Club Appoints Ray Shearwood as New Coach Analyst

Grimsby Town Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Ray Shearwood as the Men’s First Team Coach Analyst.

Ray brings over a decade of elite coaching and performance analysis experience across academy, first-team, and international football, further strengthening the Mariners’ technical staff.

Shearwood joins the Mariners after most recently serving as Head of Analysis at Al Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League (2023–2025), where he led a cutting-edge analysis department, supported strategic game planning, and delivered data-driven insights to first-team players and staff. His previous experience includes a highly successful tenure with Liverpool FC, where he worked as Lead Analyst for the U23s, as well as coaching and analysis roles across academy age groups, contributing to the development of players such as Curtis Jones, Neco Williams, and Conor Bradley.

Holding a UEFA A Licence, and currently completing an MSc in Sporting Directorship, Shearwood combines academic expertise with hands-on coaching experience.

As Coach Analyst at GTFC, Ray will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality performance analysis to support tactical objectives, individual player development, and team preparation. Working closely with the David Artell and multidisciplinary staff, he will ensure that insights from data platforms are translated into actionable strategies on the training pitch and in competitive matches.

Head Coach David Artell said, “We are thrilled to welcome Ray to the Mariners. His extensive experience at the highest levels of the game and his proven ability to bridge coaching with analysis will be invaluable as we continue to build a competitive, forward-thinking football environment.”

Ray Shearwood added, “I’m proud to be joining Grimsby Town at such an exciting time in the club’s journey. I look forward to contributing my experience and working with the staff and players to create a culture where data, analysis, and coaching combine to deliver success on the pitch.”

This appointment reflects Grimsby Town’s commitment to building a strong, innovative backroom team to support the Club with our ambitions to climb through the leagues.
