We are delighted to welcome Craig Disley back to Blundell Park this Saturday as our special guest for the Sky Bet League Two fixture against Notts County.
A true modern-day Mariners legend, the midfielder made 286 appearances for the Club, scoring 40 goals during a hugely influential six-year spell between 2011 and 2017.
Disley joined Town in June 2011 and quickly became a key figure in the heart of midfield. His leadership, consistency, and knack for scoring crucial goals made him an integral part of the squad that famously sealed promotion back to the Football League in the 2016 National League Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium, where the Mariners defeated Forest Green Rovers 3-1.
During his time at the Club, Disley delivered countless memorable moments. He opened his scoring account for Town in October 2011, looping a header into the York City net after meeting a Rob Duffy cross. The following season, he struck the Mariners’ first goal of the 2012-13 campaign against Southport, reacting quickest to an Aswad Thomas delivery.
Disley went on to hit double figures in 2013-14, finishing as the Club’s second top scorer with 12 goals in all competitions, including important strikes in both legs of the play-off semi-finals. The consistency continued into the 2014-15 season, where he missed just two league matches and again ranked among the squad’s leading scorers as we secured another play-off place.
His influence was perhaps most notable in 2016, when he played a vital role at Wembley in helping Town seal our long-awaited return to League Two.
After making 32 appearances in the 2016-17 season, Disley departed the Club, with then-director John Fenty announcing that a testimonial would be arranged for a player who had given so much to the black and white shirt. That testimonial came in November 2017, where Disley and an All Star XI, featuring the likes of Shaun Pearson, Nathan Arnold, Liam Hearn, and Lenell John-Lewis, took on the Mariners, with Disley himself getting on the scoresheet.
This weekend, supporters can look forward to hearing from Craig once again as he joins our matchday host Scott Woodthorpe in McMenemy’s. He’ll share stories from his time at Town, including his most memorable games, and what it meant to lead the Club back to the Football League.
