Grimsby Town Ability Counts enjoyed a landmark day in the Lincolnshire Disability County Cup & Plate competitions, with two of the Club’s teams booking their places in the finals for the first time in the same season.
County Disability Plate
Three Grimsby Town Ability Counts teams were involved in a highly competitive morning session of the County Disability Plate, with Group A proving exceptionally tight throughout.
GTACFC Reds showed real resilience and consistency across their six fixtures, remaining unbeaten to finish second in the group on 12 points, just one point behind group winners Lincoln Invictus Hawks. With only the top two in each group progressing to finals day, the Reds’ disciplined performances ensured they did enough to secure qualification.
The Reds recorded impressive victories over Stamford AFC Unity (4-0) and Bottesford Town FC Lions (1-0), alongside hard-fought draws against Boston United Positive Pilgrims C, Bottesford Town FC Hawks and Lincoln Invictus Hawks. The narrow margins throughout the group highlighted the competitive nature of the tournament, with third place finishing just one point behind the Reds.
County Disability Cup
In the afternoon, attention turned to the County Disability Cup, where two Grimsby Town Ability Counts teams were in action. Both squads were operating with reduced numbers, with several players stepping up to compete at a higher level.
GTACFC Whites were drawn into a challenging group against strong opposition. While results did not fall their way on the day, the commitment, effort and attitude shown by the squad throughout the afternoon was exemplary and a credit to the Club.
GTACFC Blacks produced an outstanding set of performances to top their group and progress to the finals. After a difficult opening defeat to Lincoln Invictus Vulcan, the Blacks responded superbly, winning their next three matches. Victories over Lincoln United Pan Disability Whites, Lincoln United Pan Disability Reds and Boston United Positive Pilgrims A saw them finish top of the group on nine points, securing their place on finals day.

It was a proud and historic day for Grimsby Town Ability Counts, marking the first time the Club has had teams reach the finals of both the County Cup and County Plate in the same season.
