Grimsby Town Youth produced another strong performance on Saturday morning as they secured a hard-earned 1-0 victory away at Doncaster Rovers.
The Mariners made the short trip to Cantley Park and started brightly, controlling the opening stages with confident spells of possession and good movement across the pitch.
Town created the better chances in the first half. Jalloh saw his effort well saved by the Rovers goalkeeper, while Elliott’s powerful header was also kept out as Grimsby pushed for the breakthrough.
Their pressure was eventually rewarded before the interval. A slick passage of team play carved open the Doncaster defence, allowing Onoh to take control. Showing fine individual quality, he drove forward and smashed the ball home to give the Mariners a deserved 1-0 lead at the break.
Doncaster responded after half-time and enjoyed more possession, but Town remained organised and resolute. Hall was largely untroubled in the Grimsby goal, aside from one sharp close-range save from a tight angle to preserve the advantage.
At the other end, Booth nearly doubled Town’s lead when his strike forced an excellent save from the Rovers goalkeeper at close range.
It proved to be a disciplined and mature second-half display from the Mariners, who saw out the game to secure another important victory.
Town now turn their attention to next weekend’s trip to Notts County, looking to build further momentum following Saturday’s 1-0 win.
