This Saturday, we are proud to mark World Downs Syndrome Day, an important global event celebrated on 21st March in recognition of the third copy of the 21st chromosome that causes Downs syndrome.
As part of the celebrations, members of the North East Lincolnshire Downs Syndrome Support Group will take to the pitch for a fun penalty shootout, giving them a chance to shine in front of the Mariners faithful and be part of the matchday excitement.
Supporters are encouraged to join in by wearing odd socks on the day, representing the “extra chromosome” and sparking conversations to raise awareness and support for those with Downs Syndrome. Fans can also get involved through our “Show Us Your Socks” campaign, sharing photos of their odd socks on social media and tagging Grimsby Town, with images featured on the club’s channels.
The club shop will also be supporting the North East Lincolnshire Downs Syndrome Association on Odd Sock Day, selling socks for £2 per pair, with half of all proceeds donated to the charity.
It’s a fantastic way for the club, supporters, and the wider community to celebrate inclusion, raise awareness, and support the vital work of the Support Group.
