We will soon be announcing full details of our 2026 Player of the Year Awards. Ahead of the evening, the Club would like to share that our Young Player of the Year Award will now be named in memory of Cameron Walsh.
Cameron was a valued member of the Club’s academy and a hugely respected teammate whose passion, talent and love for the game left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Cameron tragically passed away alongside his father, Dave, on Saturday 6th January 2024, a loss that continues to be deeply felt across the entire Grimsby Town family.
Renaming the award ensures Cameron’s legacy will live on at the Club, recognising young players who demonstrate the same commitment, character and love for football that Cameron showed every day.
Former Town player and academy manager Neil Woods said: “The renaming of the GTFC Young Player of the Year Award is a fitting tribute to an outstanding young man whose life and career were cut far too short. Cameron was a wonderful lad with a bright future ahead of him, and it’s only right that he continues to be remembered at the football club he loved.”
Cameron’s mum, Kerry Walsh, added: “Cameron absolutely loved being part of Grimsby Town. The club meant so much to him and he was so proud to wear the badge. As a family we’re incredibly touched that the Young Player of the Year award will carry Cameron’s name. Knowing he’ll be remembered in this way means the world to us.”
The Club will also be inviting Cameron’s family to attend the Player of the Year Awards evening, where they will be warmly welcomed as special guests and given the opportunity to present the trophy.
Further details about the Player of the Year Awards will be announced shortly.
