Town Women End Perfect Season in Style with Emphatic Win at Lincoln United

Grimsby Town Women signed off their historic campaign in emphatic fashion with a commanding 5-0 victory over Lincoln United FC Women Development, sealing an incredible unbeaten season.

Heading into their final fixture of the campaign, Town knew victory would confirm a flawless record, and they delivered a performance to match the occasion from the very first whistle.

Fast Start Sets The Tone

The Mariners wasted no time asserting their dominance and took the lead inside six minutes.

Beth Wharton showed great composure to break into the box before selflessly squaring for Milly North, who made no mistake in finishing to give Town an early advantage.

Just nine minutes later, the lead was doubled. A pinpoint delivery from Eden Pedersen caused problems in the Lincoln box, and Laura Flecknor rose highest to power a header home and make it 2-0.

Town were in complete control, and their attacking quality continued to shine. On 18 minutes, a flowing move involving Pedersen and Abbie Emslie saw the ball worked to Wharton, who again turned provider for North to slot home her second of the afternoon.

Despite further chances falling to Wharton and Flecknor, and a strong save denying Emslie at the back post, Town went into the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Town Maintain Control After The Break

A number of changes were made at half-time, but the momentum remained firmly with the Mariners.

On 57 minutes, Wharton got the goal her performance deserved. After Lincoln failed to clear from a corner, the forward reacted quickest to smash the ball into the top corner and extend Town’s lead.

The fourth goal did little to slow Grimsby’s attacking intent, and they continued to push forward in search of more.

That fifth goal arrived midway through the second half, as substitute Liv Kershaw produced a moment of quality, her cross-cum-shot evading everyone before finding the back of the net to cap off a dominant display.

Invincibles

At full-time, the result confirmed a remarkable achievement for Grimsby Town Women, who finish the season with a perfect record of 16 games played, 16 wins.

A campaign defined by consistency, attacking quality, and defensive resilience ends with silverware and a statement performance away from home.
