Grimsby hosted local rivals and league leaders Lincoln City on Saturday morning at Cheapside.
The Mariners made a really positive start and had some good flowing possession moves, Essel broke free and was 1 on 1 with the keeper only to be brought down outside the box, however, the referee only showed a yellow card.
Tomlinson stepped up and dispatched a fine free-kick into the top corner to give Town the lead.
Town doubled their advantage immediately when some good pressing saw Bramwell slide in Khouri who finished well with his right foot.
Town continued to apply the pressure Essel racing clear and hitting the outside of the post. But good pressing again saw Town make it 3 before halftime when Braithwaite tapped in.
In the second half, Lincoln came out with more appetite and capitalised on a defensive error to make it 3-1 then made it 3-2 moments later. City continued to press and drew a smart save from Jacobs but the Town backline stood firm.
Town were not finished though, a strong solo run from Milner and a neat finish into the bottom corner made it 4-2, then Thorpe played a smart combination with Tomlinson to make it 5-2.
Next up for the Mariners is Huddersfield.
