Dave Smith is to step down from his position as Commercial Manager at the Club. After a lifetime in football, and over 20 years’ service for the Club, Dave has decided to focus more time on his family.
Dave’s footballing career started at Coventry City and before he arrived at Grimsby Town he’d played for AFC Bournemouth, Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion. He later had a short spell at Swansea City before retiring as a player. Dave racked up over 400 league appearances in total, including 112 for Grimsby Town. He also had 10 Under 21 caps for England. After retiring at Swansea, Dave returned to the Club as Commercial Assistant in December 2003 and then later became the Club’s Commercial Manager.
Dave said “It has been an honour and a privilege for me to play and work at Grimsby Town. Football has been my life. It’s not easy stepping back, but we now have more support for the commercial activities at the Club meaning I can step back at exactly the time when my family, particularly my elderly parents, need me more”.
Chief Executive, Debbie Cook said “I think you’ll struggle to find a nicer chap than Dave. We’ll miss him at the Club and I’m sure he’ll pop back regularly. Everybody at the football club is grateful for his years’ of dedicated service and wishes him and his family all the very best”.
You will be able to watch an interview with Dave about his 24-year association with Grimsby Town on Mariners TV in the coming days.
