An Evening With Ray Clemence This Friday

Ray Clemence, MBE will be our special guest in McMenemy’s this Friday.

Clemence was born in Skegness and made his professional debut for local rivals, Scunthorpe United in 1966.

In June 1967, Clemence made the move to Anfield to join Liverpool, going on to make over 450 appearances for the Reds, winning multiple League titles and also succeeding in the European Cup on a number of occasions. During his time at Anfield, Clemence had great success, picking up a total of 5 League titles, one FA Cup, one League Cup, three European Cups, two UEFA Cups and the UEFA Super Cup.

After 15 years at the club, Clemence made the move to Tottenham Hotspur. Clemence made his debut for the club in the 1981 Charity Shield and also won the FA Cup in his first season with the club. With injury cutting his career with Spurs short after 240 appearances, Clemence joined the coaching staff at the club.

Clemence also had a successful spell with the England National Team, making his debut in a 1-0 victory over Wales in a World Cup Qualifier in 1972. During his time with the National side, Clemence captained the team on one occasion and was the first goalkeeper to do so since Frank Swift in the 1940’s. Over a 12 year career on the International scene, Clemence went on to earn 61 caps.
