A message from Chair of Grimsby Town Football Club, Andrew Pettit:
Now that the dust has settled after our narrow defeat to promotion-chasing Wimbledon, I wanted to take the opportunity to speak about a season of real progress at Grimsby Town Football Club.
Despite not quite clinching a play-off spot, our Men’s First Team have delivered an outstanding turnaround in the last 12 months, climbing from 21st to 9th in League Two – our highest league finish in 19 years. Credit should go to the players, David and all the staff for this achievement. Despite this, we are not satisfied and plans are already advancing to continue this improvement into next season. Whilst many thanks and good wishes go to the players who contributed in the 2024-25 season who are moving on to pastures new, we are excited by the quality of the players on the retained list, which is the best I can remember in many years.
A special mention must also go to Denver Hume, who earnt a place in the Sky Bet League Two Team of the Season and Seb Auton who was shortlisted for EFL League Two Apprentice of the Season.
A particular highlight for me was our academy reaching the Fourth Round of the FA Youth Cup – beating the 2023 winners West Ham along the way. A brilliant achievement that underlines the talent and potential in our youth pathway.
Our women’s team finished 3rd in tier six having challenged at the top of the league all season. Their increasing professional approach on and off the pitch has been excellent.
The Grimsby Town Foundation also engaged with thousands of young people across our community, helping to develop the skills of female footballers through our Emerging Talent Centre (where there are some talented prospects), delivered mental health workshops to local people with former player Nathan Arnold and launched sessions for local SEND children in partnership with England Football, on top of generating over £4m of social value during the previous campaign.
Under the Foundation, the Men’s A team were crowned CEFA U19 North League 1 Champions and will play in the National Cup Final on 13th May. The B team also claimed silverware, winning the EFL CEFA U19 North League 2 title. The Women’s team currently sit top of the CEFA league.
I’d also place on record a huge thanks to our brilliant fans. Your support throughout the season has been nothing short of magnificent. The atmosphere welcoming the lads at the Wimbledon home game was the best for many years. Home and away, you’ve been there in your numbers, backing the team, helping to drive them forward. You are, and always will be, the heartbeat of Grimsby Town Football Club. That’s why we need your support again next season.
A season ticket remains the most cost-effective way to watch the Mariners if purchased at the Early Bird rate before the 30th May deadline and the only way to guarantee your seat for every match of the next campaign. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at Blundell Park next season as we look to continue to build on progress this term.
Finally, I would like to record a huge thank you to our valuable sponsors who have continued to support us during the season. These contributions are not taken for granted and the additional exposure generated for the Club through the new Sky Sports deal which was meant we have featured live over 20 times in the 2024-25 season should only heighten the commercial opportunity offered by partnering with your club.
On behalf of the whole Mariners board, we hope you enjoy summer, get a well-earned rest, and return to Blundell Park in August in fine voice, ready for a brand new season.
