Anthony Limbrick Pre-Carlisle United Press Conference

Grimsby Town interim manager Anthony Limbrick wants his side to be ‘ruthless’ ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two clash with Carlisle United at Brunton Park (3pm).

The Mariners will be looking to return to winning ways in the league as they face Chris Beech’s side, who are 22nd and two places below Town in the table.

And Limbrick hopes Town can be more ruthless in the final third to rediscover their goalscoring form from the start of the season.

Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “If you look at the four games that I’ve been in charge of so far, in two of the games we created more than enough chances to win those matches.

“Unfortunately we didn’t score in those games, so we need to be more ruthless in the attacking third.

“Against Swindon Town we certainly didn’t create enough chances, and possibly Newport County as well.

“So if we can replicate what we did against Northampton and Cheltenham, and keep creating those chances, then we’ll end up scoring.

“That’s what we need to do, and we’ll be aiming to do it this weekend.

“It’s important for the club for us to get the win – there’s no hiding from that fact.

“Carlisle have got some good players and they’re near us in the table so it’s a big game for both sides.

“To be able to play a team which is around us is hopefully a good thing, and we’ll try and prey on that fact and hopefully it works out for us.

“But you can’t guarantee that it will be an easier game because it certainly won’t be – we’re away from home, their pitch is big, and they’ve just had a good win midweek against Forest Green Rovers in the FA Cup.”

And Limbrick has backed top scorer James Hanson to get more goals if his teammates can create chances for him.

He said: “Against Northampton and Cheltenham he didn’t have any massively clear-cut chances.

“But I think the chances maybe fell to other players, and they didn’t score.

“If we can get better-quality balls into the box and more crosses in there then it gives him more of a chance to get a goal.”

Jordan Cook (groin) and Harry Cardwell (hamstring) could potentially miss the game with slight injuries, while Elliott Hewitt is suspended after receiving his fifth yellow card.
