Barnet Team News

The Mariners could be boosted by returns for Ben Davies and Simeon Jackson ahead of Saturday’s six-pointer against Barnet at Blundell Park (3pm).

Jackson has been side-lined since the defeat at Cambridge on February 17 with a hamstring problem and has slowly been building up his fitness. Davies picked up a calf injury in the recent defeat at Coventry and has progressed his training routine this week.

But will Town boss, Michael Jolley stick with the same side that beat Chesterfield last week? Speaking at Thursday’s press conference, Jolley said: “Everyone was back in today. Simeon, who has re-joined the group this week, has done most of the training – not all, but he has a chance for Saturday.

“Ben [Davies] has trained most of the week as well, so Ben has got a chance of being involved on Saturday.”

And the Town boss isn’t sure whether Mallik Wilks will play again for the Mariners this season. He said: “He’s still at Leeds getting treatment. It’s going to be close whether he comes back in time. He may come back in the last week or two.”

Asked if he would consider changing that winning team, he said: “Potentially, yes. It’s a new opponent and a new challenge to take on. We won’t just roll out a team because we won last week, we’ve got to look at Barnet – where they are strong and where we can do well against them, and pick the right team to try to win the game.”

According to Barnet boss, Martin Allen as many as ten players will be missing at Blundell Park; Elliott Johnson, Dave Tarpey, Harry Taylor, Mauro Vilhete, Jamie Stephens, George Legg, Fuad Sule, Simeon Akinola, Darnell Smith and Ephron Mason-Clark. Meanwhile, three others – including star striker John Akinde – are also set for late fitness tests.
