Become a host family

Grimsby Town Football Club is looking for host families to support our elite young players.

We are currently seeking host family providers, couples or singles, to support our elite young players who need to live away from home to undertake their football training and education in pursuit of a career in professional football.

What are we looking for in a host family?

We are looking for host families who can provide homely accommodation throughout the football season, which includes pre-season.

Hosts are encouraged to include young players in their family life and apprentice footballers are expected to respect their host family’s way of life. We would like our players to be able to relax when in their accommodation and feel as close to being ‘at home’ as possible.

Host families are there to help support our young players by initially providing them with accommodation and meals however, in time, this role could potentially develop into supporting our young players establish some basic independent living skills such as washing, cooking, and cleaning alongside some other wider life-skills. Host families are supported in this by the Player Care team at the club.

Please note that families are regularly visited and inspected by Grimsby Town club representatives to ensure both parties remain happy with the arrangements in place.

What food are the host families required to provide?

We would expect our host families to provide meals as required, normally this would be breakfast and an evening meal dependent upon their playing and training schedule. As a club we would ask that these meals will be in line with the basic nutritional training provided by the club.

The actual accommodation needed is a bedroom, with storage, Wi-Fi connection and access to wash facilities, these can be a communal family bathroom however please ensure the bathroom is lockable. Our players are likely to bring with them a TV, laptop, games console and clothes. Some older players may also need to park their cars close by.

Where should the accommodation be located?

Access to public transport and local amenities is desirable. Accommodation would preferably be situated within a five-mile radius of Cheapside, Waltham, and/or within reasonable travelling distance by bus (Stagecoach bus route 9).

What are the commitments?

Our placements vary from short-term to long-term in nature, such as offering short notice accommodation for trialists and their families, or holiday cover for other host families.

The club is committed to equal opportunities as well as safeguarding, promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. Any applicant wishing to be considered as a host family will need to demonstrate they are able to share this commitment.

Hosts are required to attend Safeguarding, First Aid and Mental Health training and all family members (and any other persons over the age of 16 who reside at the address) are legally required to complete enhanced DBS checks.

Is it a paid role?

The role is a paid role with the current amount being £90 per player.
