Black & White Army On Song

Grimsby Town secured their EFL safety with a game to spare this season following Michael Jolley’s side’s 2-1 Sky Bet League Two victory over Notts County at Blundell Park.

But it wasn’t just the players and management who helped the club avoid relegation – the black and white army were there in their numbers all season long to support the Mariners, on and off the pitch.

And the Town fans have once again done themselves proud, with a number of noteworthy stats following the end of the League Two campaign.

The Mariners recorded the third-highest percentage of home fans taken to away games, with 15.87 per cent, in League Two, behind only second-placed Luton Town and eighth-placed Mansfield Town.

Town had the sixth-highest average away attendance in the league with 671, and they took a total of 15,442 fans to away games in the full season.

And the Mariners had an average home attendance of 4,657, with a total of 107,121 fans gracing the seats of Blundell Park in the whole season.

But where do Town’s figures rank among all 72 clubs who competed in the 2017/18 season?

The Mariners’ average away attendance of 671 is the 42nd-highest in the EFL, beating local rivals and League One side Scunthorpe United (534), and Championship outfit Burton Albion (502).

Town’s average home attendance of 4,657 is the 48th-highest in the EFL, which is better than League One sides Blackpool, Oldham, and AFC Wimbledon, as well as ranking higher than Scunthorpe and Burton again.

Thank you for your support this season, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Blundell Park in August ahead of Michael Jolley’s first full League Two campaign in charge of Town.
