Brown brace fires Mariners to comfortable victory over Notts County

Grimsby Town hosted Notts County at Bradley FDC earlier this afternoon, running out comfortable 6-2 victors on the day, with the returning Henry Brown netting a first half brace.

Town got off to a flier when the returning Henry Brown broke free and smashed home past the keeper to make it 1-0 after just 15 minutes, before the first-year pro netted his second to make it 2-0 in similar fashion.

Town were not done there; going three goals to the good when Charlie Hatton finished off a great team move, turning defence to attack in an instant, much to the surprise of the away side.

Notts County capitalised on an error right before the break to make it 3-1, with Town finishing the half on the back-foot.

Notts County started the second half well and pulled another back, finishing a cross well reducing the deficit to a goal on the stroke of the hour.

Town fought back well and further extended their lead when Elliot Smith lobbed the County keeper to make it 4-2.

The Mariners finished the game off in the driving seat, with Smith’s positive press allowing young forward Ted Sharp to finish from close range to make it five.

Neil Woods’ young side were not content with five, with Alex Graham’s header back across goal nodded home by second-half substitute Josh Edwards wrapping the game up 6-2.

Next up for the Youth Team is Chesterfield on Friday at Bradley FDC in an 11am KO.
