We are delighted to announce that Academy defender Charlie Elliott has signed his first professional contract with the Club.
The 17-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year deal, with the Club holding the option to extend his contract by a further 12 months.
Born in Wakefield, Elliott joined the Mariners after previously spending time in the Academy at Barnsley and has continued his development within our Academy programme.
A tall and commanding centre-back, Charlie combines his defensive qualities with an impressive range of technical ability and has continued to make excellent progress during his time at the Club.
Last season saw the young defender gain valuable experience with the Youth Team, making a number of starts throughout the campaign as he continued his development and adapted to the demands of academy football.
His performances have been recognised with his first professional contract, marking another important milestone in his journey and reflecting the Club’s continued commitment to developing young players through the Academy pathway.
Speaking after signing his first professional contract, Elliott said:
“It’s a really proud moment for me and my family to sign my first professional contract with Grimsby Town.
“Since coming to the Club I’ve really enjoyed every minute. The coaches and staff have been brilliant with me and have helped me develop both as a player and as a person.
“Last season gave me some valuable experience with the Youth Team and I’ve learned a lot from being around the Club. I know this is just the start, though, and I’m determined to keep working hard, improving every day and making the most of this opportunity.
“I’d like to thank everyone who’s helped me get to this point, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds.”

“He’s a young defender with some really good attributes. He’s strong defensively, comfortable on the ball and, most importantly, he’s got a willingness to learn and improve. That’s exactly what you want to see from a young player.
“Signing your first professional contract is an important milestone, but it’s only the beginning. Charlie knows there’s plenty of hard work ahead of him, and we’re looking forward to helping him continue his development over the coming years.”
