The Mariners produced a devastating first-half display to claim a huge victory in front of the Blundell Park faithful.

After weathering early pressure from the visitors, Town struck three times in nine ruthless minutes to seize complete control before the interval.

Kieran Green opened the scoring on 33 minutes, powering home a near-post header from Charles Vernam’s corner to mark his return to the starting XI in style.

Vernam then doubled the lead shortly afterwards, reacting quickest inside the penalty area to fire low beyond Matt Young after Green’s deflected delivery caused problems in the box.

Town weren’t finished there. Darragh Burns delivered an excellent cross from the right and Jude Soonsup-Bell rose brilliantly to head home his first goal for the club and send the Mariners into the break with a commanding advantage.

Cole Stockton pulled one back for Salford after the restart following a rebound from the crossbar, but Town remained composed and controlled proceedings professionally to secure another important three points in the push towards the play-off places.

A superb away performance in wet and windy Greater Manchester earned the Mariners all three points.

Town made the perfect start, breaking the deadlock inside 40 seconds when Evan Khouri swept home from close range after great work by Kieran Green and Charles Vernam.

Salford responded with a spell of pressure, but Christy Pym and the defence stood firm. Just after the half-hour, Vernam doubled the lead with a low drive into the bottom corner to send the 1,351 travelling supporters into raptures.

From there, the Mariners controlled proceedings expertly to seal a clean sheet and a thoroughly deserved victory.

Town regained the advantage in first-half stoppage time when Barrington’s effort deflected beyond the goalkeeper, and they were forced to dig deep after the break as the hosts piled on the pressure.

Resolute defending and key saves ensured the Mariners held firm to claim maximum points in front of 1,312 travelling fans.

Tuesday 15th August 2023 | Blundell Park

The Mariners claimed their first victory of the 2023/24 campaign with an assured display under the lights, as Abo Eisa netted twice to down Salford City at Blundell Park.

Town had taken the lead in the first half when Kamil Conteh won possession high up the pitch and found Eisa, whose strike from the left took a deflection and nestled into the bottom corner.

The hosts controlled proceedings with their high-energy pressing, limiting the Ammies to few clear opportunities before the break.

Early in the second half, the visitors were reduced to ten men when Ossama Ashley was dismissed for a second bookable offence, and the Mariners capitalised on their advantage just after the hour mark.

Following a scramble in the penalty area, Eisa reacted quickest to fire low into the corner for his second of the night.

Jake Eastwood preserved the clean sheet with a fine late save from a Stephen Mallan free-kick, ensuring a comfortable and deserved victory for Paul Hurst’s side.
