Cook Signs Permanent Deal with the Mariners

We are delighted to confirm the signing of Andy Cook on a permanent deal following the expiration of his contract with Bradford City.

The experienced striker has signed a one-year contract at Blundell Park, with the Club holding an option to extend the agreement by a further year.

Cook initially returned to the Mariners on loan in January and quickly established himself as a key figure in David Artell’s side, helping Town secure a place in the Sky Bet League Two Play-Offs.

The 35-year-old made 22 league appearances in black and white during the second half of last season, scoring seven goals and providing two assists. His goals included braces against Walsall and Crewe Alexandra, while his experience, leadership and physical presence proved invaluable both on and off the pitch.

A familiar face to Mariners supporters, Cook previously represented the Club during the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons, scoring 22 goals in all competitions and netting at Wembley Stadium in the FA Trophy Final.

Head Coach David Artell said: “Cooky needs no introduction. He helped play an absolutely pivotal role in us getting towards where we wanted to get to last season. He’s a great guy, was extremely fit when he came back in. We’re hoping for more of the same from Cooky, who’ll lead the line brilliantly.”

Speaking after signing his new deal, Cook said: “I’m delighted to be staying.

“I loved my time here last season and it quickly became clear what a special Football Club this is. The supporters were brilliant with me from day one and there is a real togetherness around the place.

“We achieved some great things together, but everyone is focused on what comes next. I’m excited to be back permanently and looking forward to getting started again.”

Everyone at Grimsby Town Football Club would like to congratulate Andy on his new contract and look forward to welcoming him back in black and white.
