Davies Joins Coaching Staff On Permanent Basis

Grimsby Town Football Club are delighted to announce that Ben Davies has agreed to make his temporary first team coaching role permanent.

Davies will take the role of Under 23 manager for the GTFC Academy whilst assisting both Ian Holloway and Anthony Limbrick on a daily basis with the younger pros and Scholars who now form a significant portion of the playing squad.

Davies will also be responsible for the progression of the development professionals to enhance their experience and progress their careers with the club or helping them find temporary loan placements to assist.

We spoke to Davies about his role and initial reaction to the appointment. “I’m delighted to be a part of it”, said Davies. “Ant brought me in when he first took over and it has been a really full on 10 weeks and is something that I have really enjoyed and really got stuck into. It’s great to be back around the boys and just enjoying every day and every minute of it”.

Davies also spoke about the step up from his role within the Academy to assisting the first team. “It’s not been much of a change to be honest, the squad in there I have played with or against or I knew the boys anyway and that’s half the battle when you come into a first team environment, knowing the players, their strengths and what they need to work on. I’ve watched them a lot this season so it was just a case of getting my teeth stuck into it to be honest”.

Ben also wanted to give his thanks to Cleethorpes Town for allowing him to continue his role at The Mariners. “They have been brilliant, the club are a class act to be honest with the three Directors and Chairman that they have there and the manager and everything”, said Davies. “It was a case of, I was doing a lot of hours with the Academy anyway and they were brilliant with me doing that, so yes, they have made the transition easy for me in all honesty. I had registration with them to keep playing because I wanted to keep playing and enjoying football, but when an opportunity like this comes along, it was something that I couldn’t turn down”.

We would like to thank Cleethorpes Town for their co-operation and assistance with Ben in allowing him to continue his role with Grimsby Town Football Club and wish them every success for the future.
