Deal Agreed To Sign Sebastian Ring

Grimsby Town Football Club are delighted to announce that it has agreed a deal to sign Swedish attacking left-back, Sebastian Ring subject to International clearance and passing a medical.

Michael Jolley has moved quickly before the opening of the January transfer window by securing the services of the 23-year-old, who joins The Mariners on an 18 month contract after almost 6 years at his home town side, Orebro SK in the Swedish Allsvenskan. Ring appeared in most of the club’s fixtures last season and helped the club to finish 9th with 35 points last season. Ring was offered a new deal, but rejected the offer in order to join GTFC.

Speaking exclusively to gtfc.co.uk, Ring discussed his move, his delight to move to England and what he is like as a player. “I have spent my entire life in Orebro, a town in Sweden and played for the club almost 6 years, but I am very happy to be here in England and experience a new adventure”, said Ring.

“I am a left-footed left back. I feel that I am good with the ball, I have good technique and although i’m not so tall, I feel that I am good in the air and can fight for the ball. I also like to get forward and get crosses in with my left foot.”

“Last season was pretty good for me I think”, explained Ring. “I have developed very much as a player in the last year and I think I will become a better player playing in English football. Last year it was a little bit up and down, but I feel that I had my best year last year”.

Manager, Michael Jolley has first hand experience with Ring, after his spell in Sweden managing AFC Eskilstuna. “We are excited to bring Sebastian to Grimsby Town and we look forward to working with him”, said Jolley.

“At just 23, he is still a young player but one with significant experience in Allsvenskan. We will give Sebastian the support and time necessary to adjust to life in England, but we are confident that during the term of his contract, he can help the team move forward. Welcome to Grimsby, Sebastian”.

Ring spoke highly of the manager, something he says was important in his decision to move from his home town. “I know the manager from last year, he was manager of Eskilstuna and he learned a bit about me from his time there. He told me a lot of good things about the club and the area. My agent and I visited a few weeks ago and now I am just very happy to be here!”

Ring will meet up with his new team mates today as they travel to Exeter ahead of tomorrow’s Sky Bet League Two game, something he is excited ahead of. “I met the team when I visited the area before but it’ll be great to see them all again”, said Ring. “I will travel with the team today and we will train at Birmingham before heading to Exeter. I will watch the game and hopefully we can bring home the 3 points with us!”
