We are delighted to announce that defender Doug Tharme has signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract, extending his stay at Blundell Park until at least the summer of 2028.
The 26-year-old joined the Mariners in January 2024 and has since become a key part of the squad, making over 50 appearances in black and white to date and scoring two goals. Tharme announced himself in style when he scored on his debut in the 2-1 fixture against Tranmere Rovers, before netting his second goal for the Club in December 2024 during a convincing 3-0 victory over Port Vale.
Tharme’s journey through the game has taken him from academy football at Wrexham, where he made his professional debut in 2018, to a series of determined steps up the pyramid. His early senior career included spells with AFC Telford, Tamworth, Curzon Ashton and Welsh Premier League side Connah’s Quay Nomads, before a standout season at Southport in 2021/22 saw him earn a move to Blackpool. He returned to Southport on loan before spending the 2022/23 campaign at Accrington Stanley, where he made 37 appearances across League One and cup competitions.
Since arriving in Cleethorpes, Tharme has emerged as one of the Mariners’ most consistent performers, admired for his intelligence, physicality, and leadership qualities both on and off the pitch – making him a real favourite of the Town faithful.
