Ellie Wilson Becomes Grimsby Town Women’s Youngest Ever Player And Goalscorer

Ellie Wilson became Grimsby Town women’s youngest ever player and goalscorer in the 5-0 pre-season friendly win over Peterborough United.

Ellie is the youngest player to ever play for Grimsby Town Women at just 16 years and 13 days.

She marked the occasion with an impressive display, growing into the game minute by minute, and even making more history – scoring her first ever goal and becoming the youngest goal scorer ever.

And women’s manager Dale Houlston was delighted for Wilson for her achievement.

Manager Dale Houlston said: “Ellie did really well in her first performance, and I am extremely pleased for her.

“It didn’t actually dawn upon us on the day that she had made history for the club.

“It is a big step for young players in the female game having to play against adults for the first time.

“We don’t have intermediate football for girls at our level, and so the prospect of going into senior games straight away can be quite daunting.

“But she coped with the challenge admirably. The same can be said for all of our young players.

“We have five 16-year-olds playing their first full season in senior football and they are doing really well, as well as a number of players that aren’t much older too.

“I am really keen to recognise young talented players and to give them every opportunity to develop with us.”

This week the women’s team continue their pre-season preparations with a trip to Hull University to play Pinefleet Wolfreton AFC who play their football in the East Riding League (11am).
