Lavelle signed for the Mariners in July 2025 ahead of the 2025-26 season.
The defender began his career in the academy at Blackburn Rovers, before brief spells at Bolton Wanderers and Morecambe – where he would enjoy a standout chapter of his career. During a four-year stay with the Shrimps, Lavelle made 139 appearances and captained the side to promotion via the Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final in 2021, securing the club’s first-ever place in League One.
His performances earned him a move to Charlton Athletic, where he continued to impress at League One level. Notably, Lavelle held his nerve to score the decisive penalty in Charlton’s Carabao Cup shootout victory over Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion in December 2022, booking the Addicks a place in the quarter-finals.
In recent seasons, the Scottish centre-back has built a reputation as a commanding and reliable presence at the back. Despite Carlisle’s struggles last term, Lavelle stood out – scoring four goals, including one against the Mariners at Blundell Park in February 2025.
