David Artell celebrated his first home game in charge of the Mariners with victory over his former club at Blundell Park.
Town opened the scoring in spectacular fashion midway through the first half when Abo Eisa unleashed a stunning strike from the edge of the penalty area that flew into the top corner.
The Mariners doubled their advantage in first-half stoppage time as Danny Rose met Anthony Glennon’s cross at the far post and powered a header into the net.
Crewe pulled a goal back through Joe White late in the contest, but Town defended resolutely to secure all three points.

Luke Waterfall opened the scoring early in the first half with a header from Bryn Morris’ free kick before Kieran Green doubled the lead with a powerful half-volley from distance.
Town remained in control after the break and added a third through Andy Smith, who volleyed home from Anthony Glennon’s delivery.
Stephen Wearne completed the scoring late on, finishing from close range to seal an impressive four-goal victory and a place in the next round.
