Freeview | Michael Jolley Post-Crewe Alexandra Press Conference

Grimsby Town manager Michael Jolley hopes the Mariners can continue to improve in Sky Bet League Two in the 2019-20 season.

Town signed off their league campaign with a 2-0 win over Crewe Alexandra at Blundell Park, thanks to first-half goals from Harry Davis and Joe Grayson.

And Jolley is now hoping his side, who finished 17th-place, can keep improving in the league next year.

Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: โ€œI thought it was a win we deserved โ€“ we played well in the first half.

โ€œWe could see the wind had a big impact on the game, and clearly whoever was defending that end of the pitch struggled to get out.

โ€œIt was Crewe in the first half and I thought we pressed them well, produced some good opportunities, and scored two good goals.

โ€œThe second half was more difficult because of the wind, and Crewe are obviously a decent team, but I think overall we deserved to win the game.

โ€œWe wanted to improve on last seasonโ€™s points tally, which weโ€™ve done.

โ€œWe wanted to build the nucleus of a group that can take us forward next season, with further additions, which weโ€™ve done.

โ€œWeโ€™ve had some fantastic victories across the course of the season, so weโ€™ve certainly had our share of good days.

โ€œWeโ€™ve also had a number of defeats so we want to try and improve as we move into next season.โ€

Jolley highlighted Max Wrightโ€™s potential, after the Town youth academy graduate made his full EFL debut in the victory over Crewe.

He said: โ€œHe did well. He showed a couple of moments of real invention โ€“ he slid one ball through for Joe Grayson which was really good.

โ€œHeโ€™s clearly got a lot to learn ahead of him, but we can all see his potential so a really good debut from him.โ€

And the Town boss also praised goalkeeper James McKeown, who made a number of good saves to keep a clean sheet over the Railwaymen.

He said: โ€œHe made some good saves. It was another fantastic performance from James, and I think he played really well, and thoroughly deserved his man of the match award.โ€
