Grimsby Town manager Michael Jolley was pleased with his side’s performance as they made it three Sky Bet League Two games unbeaten.

The Mariners grabbed their third clean sheet in a row in the 0-0 draw with Exeter City at Blundell Park, as James McKeown saved Pierce Sweeney’s 56th-minute penalty.

And Jolley was impressed with the way his side performed, following their break from league action last weekend.

Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “It was a good game of football – probably a classic game of two halves. First half I think we were the better team and had some chances to get the first goal.

“We wanted to continue that in the second half, but you could see Exeter are a good side, and they got on the front foot – more so in the second half.

“We obviously saved a penalty which is credit to our goalkeeper, but even at the end, we still had some situations and we could have nicked it.

“We’re pleased to take a point and it’s three clean sheets in a row, and seven points, but you always want to win if you can.”

And Jolley praised his side’s defensive displays in the last three league games.

He said: “On the run that we had, we were conceding too many goals, and we’ve tried to address that and tighten up.

“And it’s credit to the whole team – especially the goalkeeper and the defenders, they’re working hard all week.

“But the whole team are trying to get into a good shape and prevent chances from being created by the other team – so well done to the whole team.”

The Mariners are back in Sky Bet League Two action on Tuesday when they welcome Colchester United to Blundell Park (7.45pm).
