Town boss Russell Slade feels his side need to go back to basics after watching his side slip to defeat at Crewe Alexandra.

He said: “I thought we started off fine for the first ten minutes away from home.

“We’re going to have to go back to basics again, we’re going to have to strip it down again, and we’re going to have to work on it and stay in games like we were until we do get the opportunity to take one and get in front.”

“We don’t seem to be able to build at the minute on the momentum we create for ourselves in the game.

“At the minute, it seems a fine line between getting on top and executing a goal, and then the opposition getting a goal.”

Handball!

“First goals are always important. Porter’s dragged the ball down with his arm, it’s a poor decision from the officials to let that carry on, and from there they’ve scored the goal. Yes, we haven’t defended it well, but actually it’s a free-kick to us.

“I’m not here trying to belly-ache, but there’s two key decisions involved in the two goals that have cost us a football match today. It was always then a mountain to climb.

“Second half, I thought we were excellent, albeit, again, not finishing things off, whether it’s the final cross, whether it’s the timing of a run, getting in the box and hitting the target to work the goalkeeper. These are the things we had an issue with a few weeks ago.”

Delving into the transfer market.

“Over the season, at times, there’s been patches or periods where we’ve struggled to get a goal – you know that. . We had three nil-nil’s on the bounce. I thought the creativity was there but I don’t think the final touch was there.

“You change, you work your group with what you can. We know this group can score goals because it has done in the past. Having said that, I would like to shake that around a little bit and hopefully get someone in, when opportunities do come, we are able to execute.”
