Glennon Becomes First January Signing

Grimsby Town Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of Burnley Under 23 captain, Anthony Glennon on loan until the end of the season, becoming Ian Holloway’s first signing since his appointment.

Primarily an attacking left full-back, the 20-year-old joined The Clarets in June 2018 after being released from Liverpool, where he progressed through the academy system that he was at from the age of 6.

Following his release from Liverpool, Glennon impressed on trial before putting pen-to-paper on a deal with Burnley, recently extending his deal by an additional two years in the summer of 2019.

Following a string of impressive performances during the 2018/19 season as captain, Glennon was selected in the First Team squad for Burnley’s home game vs. Manchester City in April 2019. Glennon also travelled to Chelsea with the squad for their 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge but was not selected in the final 18.

We spoke to Anthony this morning as he met his new team mates for the first time. “I finished training with Burnley yesterday and Ian Holloway phoned me”, said Glennon. “He said he wanted me to join on loan and train today so it was short notice but I came down last night. I need the experience, it’s men’s football and it’s the next step for me.”

Anthony will now be eligible for The Mariners’ fixture away at Leyton Orient on Saturday 11th January, as we look to continue our good form in 2020.

Welcome Anthony!
