Grimsby Town U18s v Chesterfield – Youth Team Match Preview

Neil Woods’s Grimsby Town youth team return to EFL North East Youth Alliance action as they face Chesterfield at Cheapside on Saturday (11am).

The young Mariners picked up an impressive 2-1 win over Walsall last time out as they moved up to first in Youth Alliance Cup group D.

The Saddlers opened the scoring, before Evan Khouri equalised midway into the second half.

And Ayodeji Owoeye secured all three points as his 90th-minute goal lifted Town up to top of the table in their final group game.

But it’s back to league action this weekend as Town welcome Chesterfield to Cheapside.

The young Mariners are currently bottom of the league, with two wins and a draw from their opening nine matches.

Town’s last league win came at the end of August as they beat Scunthorpe United 1-0 at Cheapside.

And they will be hoping to return to winning ways, and build on last weekend’s impressive cup performance, in the league this weekend.

Chesterfield are eighth-place, on 12 points – three places and five points above Town.

And the Spireites will be looking to continue where they left off last weekend as they beat Rotherham United 2-1 at home.

After this weekend’s clash with Chesterfield, the young Mariners host Mansfield Town at Cheapside on Saturday, December 14 (12pm).
