Grimsby Town Women’s attendance (501) for Saturday’s 6-3 win over Barton United Ladies was higher than all but one game in the six divisions of the Women’s National League.

Dale Houlston’s side made it two wins from two in the Lincolnshire Women’s League as they claimed all three points in their first ever match at Blundell Park.

Libbi Wright scored a brace, with captain Sophie Bartup, Ellie Wilson, Alisha Dejorge, and Bethany Wharton bagging the other four goals as the Mariners maintained their perfect start to the season.

And there was an excellent crowd of 501 fans supporting the Mariners at Blundell Park – a bigger attendance than all but one match in the six Women’s National League divisions (the third and fourth tiers of the women’s football pyramid – below the FA Women’s Championship and above the regional leagues).

The only game which had a larger crowd than Town’s was MK Dons v Plymouth Argyle (1109).

But the Mariners’ attendance was bigger than all other fixtures in the National League divisions, including Nottingham Forest v Sunderland (278), Wolves v Doncaster Rovers Belles (138), Ipswich Town v Billericay Town (247), Huddersfield Town v Derby County (137), and Lincoln City v Solihull Moors (107).

Grimsby Town Women are away at Barton United Ladies in the County Cup on Sunday (2pm).
