Hatton and Sharp secure three points for Youth Team against Chesterfield

Town’s Youth Team returned to winning ways yesterday morning against Chesterfield, thanks to goals from Charlie Hatton and Ted Sharp.

Windy conditions didn’t make for the purest game of football, but it remained a competitive game, nonetheless.

The Mariners began the game on top, coming close when Lennon Peterson fired wide from close range before numerous set-pieces were poorly cleared by the Spireites, but Neil Woods’ lads were unable to capitalise.

A level scoreline at the half-way stage saw the Mariners make a couple of tactical changes, introducing both Carlo Midwinter and Kristian Catchpole.

The changes made a positive impact, with a good passing move seeing Charlie Hatton beat his man but seeing his effort clatter back off the upright.

Town continued to turn the screw, and Hatton’s persistence was rewarded moments later with a fine finish, making it two goals in two games for the young midfielder.

The Mariners continued to control proceedings, with Charlie Hatton again playing a key role in Town’s second, with an inviting free kick nodded home precisely by Ted Sharp late in the second half.

Next up for the Youth Team is a tough clash against Burton Albion.
